This week it was announced that the legendary author, J.D. Salinger, has passed away at the age of 91. Many thought the name sounded familiar and it should to those who remember reading the novel “The Catcher in the Rye” for their high school or college English class.

It has been years since I read the book or was required to read the book. Because, to be honest, I think I just skimmed the pages to get through and really did not read it with any depth. Now that I am older and am I not required to do any reading, reading has become more fun. I have actually read some of those old college novels that I skimmed through and just read enough of to get by. The second time around, these novels do not seem that bad. A large part of me wishes that I would have appreciated those books years ago, but isn’t that they way life seems to work. Being older does, hopefully, make you wiser and more appreciative of things.

The Catcher in the Rye is not one of the books that I still have, but I will be picking up a copy to see everything that I missed.
